WINTER  February 23, 2002

by Blanche Blacke

I kept waiting for heat thru the icy shield you wore
But, cold shoes always carried you away from me.
Lifetimes of longing...
Is this one yours and mine?
Forever was and never will be.
You didn’t know that was my favorite melody
that always made me cry before -- and now so much more.
So easy for you, isn't it?
as the heat of the world’s love orbits.
I stand alone beneath a cold, dark moon.
No light.
No romance.
Only torture.
Doesn’t take courage to stand waiting...
for nothing...or courage to run away.
But courage to break the rules and BE
in the truth of feeling.
I dream no more.
I lay down my arms
and consider the ice box you walk around in
with more than a taste of the deepest sadness I have ever known.
I build up my courage to walk towards fire
And leave your winter behind me.
